Resource Smart schools in your region

To help Victorian schools actively build sustainability into the fabric of everyday school and community life, resourceSmart now has a consortia of service providers in each of the nine Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) regions.  NEWRRG supports this initiative in the Hume Region through the provision of a schools project officer as a waste facilitator to support resourceSmart schools in the North East area.  The aim of resourceSmart schools is to:

  • minimise waste, save energy and water, promote biodiversity, and cut greenhouse gas emissions
  • integrate educational, environmental, social and economic outcomes and embed sustainability into the fabric of everyday school and community life.

NEWRRG can assist schools with the Waste component of the resourceSmart program by assisting with things such as: waste and litter audits, signage, sorting, reusable items, dealing with food scraps, composting, paper reduction, recycling, reducing and green purchasing.
