PPR at the Alpine Resorts

Mt Buller PPR

In 2012 NevRwaste obtained funding through SV’s ‘PPR & Roadside Litter’ grants to increase the number of permanent PPR systems at the four major Victorian Alpine Resorts (Falls Creek, Mt Buller, Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain) and refurbish their existing PPR systems.  The grant money assisted these four sites with new infrastructure, signage and education initiatives.

The project:

  • Established 51 permanent recycling stations and refurbished 50% of existing public place recycling stations at the 4 Alpine Resorts in North East Victoria.
  • Diverted 10 tonnes of recyclables from landfill
  • Decreased littering at the Alpine Resorts by 18%
  • Saw a  50% decrease in contamination in the recycling bins

Victoria’s Alpine Resorts are iconic Australian tourist destinations.  Visitors from across the country and the world visit the Alpine Resorts throughout the year, making the mountains a high profile area. The further installation of new recycling stations at these venues has reinforced the message for the need for recycling to occur everywhere.
