Executive Officer News

Welcome to the first newsletter of the North East Waste and Resource Recovery Group!  It has been a busy year establishing the new group and finding our feet, but as you will see from this newsletter our Officers continue to deliver some valuable projects.

I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Peter Joyce of Towong Shire Council who has been elected as the Chair of the North East Local Government Waste Forum and Mark Greene of Indigo Shire Council who has been elected as the Chair of the Forum’s Technical Advisory Sub-Committee (TAS).

The Local Government Waste Forum is a new group for the region, with great potential to advocate to government and industry around waste and resource recovery issues of significance in North East Victoria.  The Group is also interested in providing professional development opportunities for both councillors and council staff.  This will kick off with a midyear two day tour of significant metropolitan resource recovery infrastructure.

The Board have recognised that the delivery of our new functions is hinged on the maintenance of a collaborative partnership with North East local government and alpine resorts, being the major owner/operator of waste and resource recovery services and infrastructure in the region.  Through regular Forum/TAS meetings, presentations to councils & resorts and collaboration of a range of significant projects we will endeavour to continue and build on this successful partnership.
