New PPR systems soon to arrive in the North East

A3 Recycling Singage

50 new waste and recycling bin dual enclosures for council streetscapes and 20 special snow line waste and recycling bin stations for alpine resort areas are soon to be installed throughout north east Victoria this September.

The new systems have been manufactured by Draffin Street Furniture and are expected to be dispatched by mid-August 2016.

Overall the project will deliver over 120 new individual recycling and waste bins installed across the region to help increase recycling rates and reducing litter in public areas.

Thanks to the ongoing partnership between North East Waste and Resource Recovery Group (North East WRRG) , local government and alpine resorts, the funding through the Australian Packaging Covenant (APC) was able to be leveraged, therefore doubling the original project funds.  The North East WRRG was successfully awarded $75,000 of funding from the Australian Packaging Covenant (APC) for the roll out of new public place recycling bin systems in North East Victoria.

Part of the funding provided through the APC will go towards new waste and recycling signs for all new bins and existing infrastructure with the call to action to: ‘Do the Right Thing, Use the Right Bin’.

There is a constant need to reinforce the recycling message especially when people are away from home. These new bin systems will make it just as easy to recycle away from home, as it is at home by providing infrastructure that is accessible and easily understood by all residents and visitors.

Local councils involved in the project include: Alpine Shire, Benalla Rural City, City of Wodonga, Indigo Shire Council and the Rural City of Wangaratta. Alpine Resorts involved in the project include: Falls Creek Resort Management, Mt Buller/Mt Stirling Resort Management and Mt Hotham Resort Management.
