School Environment Education Directory (SEED)

SEED is a partnership project jointly funded by NEWRRG and NECMA and is a one stop shop for teachers and environment staff to access hundreds of environment curriculum resources. NEWRRG has been heavily involved in the development and support of this website and provides lots of waste resources under the headings of composting, litter, recycling, resourceful living v’s consumerism and waste wise.  The SEED website provides access a fantastic range of sustainability education resources on biodiversity, climate change, general sustainability, waste and water.  The website provides links to local information contacts, excursions/incursions and other useful links for schools.  CLICK HERE to checkout our website


ResourceSmart schools in your region

To help Victorian schools actively build sustainability into the fabric of everyday school and community life, ResourceSmart now has a consortia of service providers in each of the nine Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) regions.  The aim of resourceSmart schools is to:

  • minimise waste, save energy and water, promote biodiversity, and cut greenhouse gas emissions
  • integrate educational, environmental, social and economic outcomes and embed sustainability into the fabric of everyday school and community life.

Sustainability Victoria can assist schools with the Waste component of the resourceSmart program by assisting with things such as: waste and litter audits, signage, sorting, reusable items, dealing with food scraps, composting, paper reduction, recycling, reducing and green purchasing.

The Eco Living Trailer

Bring sustainability into the classroom at a whole new level with the Eco Living Mobile Education Trailer.  The Eco Living Trailer is a unique, interactive sustainability education tool and is an initiative of the Rural City of Wangaratta.  The Eco Living Trailer can be incorporated into classroom learning concentrating on environmental sustainability.  Presentations can focus on energy, water, waste and new technologies.  Activities are hands on with the interactive Sustainability Activity House Kit, solar toys, shower flows, water use, lighting, recycling and a TV for short film clips and internet access.

Session times range from 2 to 4 hours, run by the Sustainability Education Officer.  Sessions for schools within the Rural City of Wangaratta are offered for free with hire rates and travel costs applicable to locations outside of the municipality.  Please contact the Sustainability Education Officer on 03 5722 0888 or e-mail: to discuss your class needs and receive a quotation.
