Aim 3: Increasing the performance and safety of the waste and recycling infrastructure

Why is this important?
When infrastructure and service operations follow ‘best practice’ (which is the correct approach) recycling rates and performance improve.  This ultimately means reduced financial, social and environmental impacts across the community.

What will change and how it will affect me?
It is likely that you will see improvements to your local resource recovery centre over the coming years.  These improvements will include better and bigger areas for sorting and storing materials for recycling. In council areas where there are currently many small transfer stations these are likely to be merged into one larger, more cost effective resource recovery centre.  These larger centres will collect more materials for recycling and will likely have longer opening hours.
